Hi,

I am planning to get into ISB, may be after 3-4 years. My academics X:78%, XII : 95%, Engg : 65% and MBA: 3.2/4. I have 3.5 years of experience right now and it will 6-7 yrs by the time I join ISB. I am sure I will get 700+ in GMAT.

I was the co-founder of a start-up and currently I am working as a Business Analyst in a marketing research firm.

I am learning Chinese
I worked as vice president of Indian Student Association at Clemson University
Table Tennis champion during college

My question is what else do I need to have in my resume to get into ISB? I am sure many people getting into ISB have better acads and better work experience compared to that of mine. I want to get an edge over them and get into ISB. What should I do?

Thanks
Neel

Hi Neel,

3.5 yrs. of work experience is good enough to start your application for ISB 2014 intake. Why do you have to wait so long? Better acads and better work experience does not guarantee admission in any b-school. What b-schools look for is the value you will create in the class and help the b-school society. Well you can strengthen your profile by working on team headship and demonstrating the same in your application essays. You can try your chances in b-schools by clicking https://www.general-ed.com/chances-of-bschool

As interview is a crucial factor in b-school application, I would recommend you to show professional accomplishment during the final interviews. You can know more about ISB interview tips and preparations on https://bit.ly/XQVp4s

Let me hear in case of other concerns you might have.

Best,
Yash

Hi,

I would suggest you to target 700+ GMAT. Don't get upset by low GPA. It can be made up by skillfully writing application essays and showcasing professional achievements during final interviews. I don't think changing job would be useful until you get to lead a team. You can talk about headship traits in your interviews as well. Try your chances in b-schools by clicking https://www.general-ed.com/chances-of-bschool

Feel free to post any other concerns you might have. You can PM your number to have a discussion over profile and selection of b-schools.

Best,
Yash

I am planning on taking the GMAT in after 3 months & targetting 700+ . Can you please tell me if my profile is up to the mark to apply in ISB, also kindly tell me what GMAT score should I aim for. Also I am planning on shifting to another company, Is that a bad thing in terms of applying for ISB? In order to amend my low undergrad cgpa should I enroll myself in some management related diploma or would any distance postgrad education before applying in ISB?

Thank You.

Hi,

I am still to take GMAT. My brief profile is as follows:-

X - 92%
XII - 85%
B.Tech - 81%

I did my B.Tech from NIT Jalandhar in chemical engineering. I have almost 2 yrs. of work ex
as a Process Engineer in Technip India Ltd. working on various Oil & Gas, Refinery, LNG and Petrochemical Projects. I will have around 3 years experience when i intend to apply to ISB.

Some other of my activities are :-

1. Gold Medalist of Chemical Engg. Batch 2007-11 at NIT Jalandhar.
2. Served as the Placement Coordinator for my batch at NIT Jalandhar.
3. Member of the Academic Advisory Committee , Chemical Engg. , NIT Jalandhar.
4. Member of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IICHE) and Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), UK.
5. Member of Publicity and Marketing Committees of Techniti (National Level Technical Festival at NIT Jalandhar) and Utkansh (Annual Cultural Festival of NIT Jalandhar).
6. Member of Symphony club (Cultural) at Technip India office at Noida.

Can you suggest what all I can do to enhance my profile and what my target for GMAT score should
be.

Thanks & Regards,
