The basics
What is the GMAT?
The business-school admissions exam from GMAC: 64 questions across Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights. Each section lasts 45 minutes, all three count equally toward the 205–805 Total Score, and there is no essay.

Question-adaptive — the scoring mechanic
Question difficulty adapts as you work. Correctness, difficulty, unanswered questions, and response behavior all affect the section score, so finish every question and manage time steadily.
Question Review & Edit
Bookmark questions as you work. After answering every question in a section, review as many as time allows and change up to three answers before the section locks.

Scoring · 205–805 Total Score
How GMAT scoring works — and what's good
The Total Score runs from 205 to 805 in 10-point increments. Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights are equally weighted. Use the estimator below as directional program-tier guidance, not an admissions cutoff.

Section balance matters as much as total. A weak section score can expose a readiness gap even alongside a strong total. Current GMAT scores remain valid for five years, and you choose programs after seeing the result. Always confirm the expected range directly with each target program.
Comparison
GMAT vs. GRE vs. EA
The GMAT is built specifically for graduate business school and gives Quant, Verbal, and Data Insights equal weight. Compare that business focus with the GRE’s broader graduate-school reach and the EA’s shorter executive format.
