Hi,

We strongly recommend that your retake GMAT to cross 700 and apply in Round 2. Your have an IT / ITeS/ Telecom profile for which 650 is way below average. Add to that your below average grades in college and school which make the case for academic ability even weaker.

Other things in profile are still decent but we dont think that you will be able to compensate for the average academic performance by your IT experience only.

Hi,

I took the gmat yesterday, but it got worse - drop from 650 to 640. Please advice what should I do now. Should I go ahead and take admission in 3-tier schools or wait for a year and retake?
Some suggest that with 4.5 yrs exp I'm already late and I should take admission ASAP, but I wanted to go for top-tier universities, as MBA is once in a life-time.
Considering that I'm willing to apply this year, please suggest which all universities I can apply in Asia/Pacific.

Thanks!

We would recommend applying to XLRI GMP & IIMI EPGP. These are good options and you can get it with 650.

Also look at NUS and NTU though they will be tough. NUS has rolling admissions, so apply early.

Or whether i should wait for some more 2-3 years before going for GMAT(i know there is no point in taking GMAT if my profile is not convincing)
Do let me know.

Thanks,

Hi,

We would recommend waiting for atleast an year. You have little more than 2 yrs of experience now. Your work experience is in technology domain which is a disadvantage.

Take considerable time to prepare well for GMAT and target a 720+.

In the meantime also see if you can get into business analyst or pre sales kind of roles within your organization. This will strengthen your profile.

Work Ex:
1. 7+ years in IT development, project management and presales (USA 2 yr and frequent in EU).
2.I've handled portfolio of USD1.5m with 30+ people

Extra Curricular:

Special Background:
I carry a special historical background. Indian-American trade relation was started by my ancestor. Hence our family is accredited by both Indian and USA government. As a member of that family sometime I deal with many foreign delegates who come to study Indian heritage.

I wonder with this background but relatively lower GMAT shall I apply for ISB?
We would strongly recommend that you go ahead and apply to ISB.

Agree, your GMAT is average but your work experience looks good. Focus on client interaction & international experience.

Your extra currics is something which will differentiate you. Both classical music and your historical background make the profile interesting.

Do a good job with you essays and video and you can get an interview call.

I am scared of interviews. Please guide me through the interview process and would also request you to please send some ISB interview tips across.

Thanks & Regards

Hi Kanika,

We would recommend waiting for an year given the following:

1) You havent taken GMAT. There is not enough time for you to prepare for GMAT and work on essays/ application as well.

2) You have less than 2 yrs of experience right now which is way below ISB average.

3) Since you have mentioned that you are weak at spoken English, take this 1 year to work on that. ISB has a video and if you are not good at spoken English it will be a big negative.

How about retaking GMAT for 700+
Hi Rajesh,

Your profile is neither great nor bad.
Yes, you will have to differentiate yourself from a typical IT profile and PSU experience can do only a limited compensation.

Your GMAT score is weak. If you can retake it in next 10-12 days and cross 700 it will help.

Well, everything will depend on your essays, videos and recos.

So, take a call. If you are not retaking GMAT, get started with essays etc ASAP.

2.I had been sent to USA 1.5 years back to deliver a critical part of my current project.Since then,I am leading a small team of 3 people.I am still in USA
continuing the assignment

Extra-Curricular Activities: I do not have much in this area.

I took part in state level cricket championship, representing my school.
I helped my uncle on and off with his software and hardware reselling business, solving some unique problem he was facing. The steps thus taken reduced their number of

I have experience of working in rural india mostly through management of my family assets.I had to partially give up this opportunity for the last 2 years
after coming overseas.

I would like to continue my career in consulting post MBA but my current lack of business knowledge is not giving me an edge over my peers, who are in the same state.
I am planning to apply in the R2 season but little afraid about my GMAT score.

Do you think I can give it a shot or shall I try next year after improving my GMAT score?
Honestly, can't say whether you can get in or not. We would recommend waiting for an year and applying after improving the GMAT and adding a few interesting things to your profile.

Your profile is a typical IT profile and the only good thing is 2 yrs of international experience but that wont alone do the trick.

Your GMAT score is also average.

May be wait for an year and try to fix the areas highlighted above
