Hi All,

I am from a family business background as well.

I have done BE in Mechanical Engineering and got 71% as final aggregate. Ranked 4th in class.

After that, I pursued PG Diploma from University of Manchester (UMIST), UK, in Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Systems Management.

Working in family business since then. Its been 2.5 years by now and will be 4/5 years when I join an MBA course.

GMAT - have started the preparations. My score in the 1st GMATprep was 540.
I am aiming for 720+ score in the GMAT.

Should I dream for ISB and other top B Schools?

Hey Everyone,

Like everyone in this forum, even i really want to get into ISB. My profile is as below.

650 GMAT - All my mock GMATS i got scores ranging from 680-750. In hindsight, i found the stupidest mistake i made was to give mock GMAT's without essays. So when it came time for the real thing, well, i guess my mental stamina(or something like tht) faltered. I have no energy to give it again.

I have almost 5 years work ex. I started off in hotels(I was accepted in the best management training program in asia, with the Oberoi Group), after a year and a half i realised, hotels weren't for me. So i moved out, joined an NGO for lil more than a year. After carefully thinking my next step, I decided i wanted to make my career in Marketing. So i decided to start from the bottom, and move my way up. I am right now workin in a BTL (Below the Line) Marketing promotions firm. We do Events, Brand Activations, Retail & Exhibition Design & MICE. I work in a Key Accounts role and handle 2 of our biggest clients (1 being our biggest client) who are 2 of the largest automobile companies in the world. I've been doing this for almost 2 years now, I started as an intern and moved my way up. thinking of moving to a digital marketing firm now, but lets see.

Now, I am definitely gonna give ISB a shot this year. What do u guys think are my chances (I know they're not too good) I have 2 friends, 1 just passed out from ISB and 1 just joining, both from a hotel background, they both say, i need to have strong essays and need to tell my story in a very positive way. But i'd like to get ur opinions as well.

Lemme know what u guys think bout my profile.

Like everyone, i really wanna make it to this place.

Thanks Everyone.

great news Ankur, hopefully the probability for us getting through increases with the increase in the number of seats. :)

Kindly put forth a query in the meet as to whether we will have a choice for the campus or it will be decided by the management. One of my friends attended the meet at Bangalore, I will also get in touch with him and post more info here.
Cheers !!

AFAIK, you will be asked for a choice of your campus and if the preferred one is filled up, the other will be given to you. For the second part of your course(during the electives) if the one you want to pursue is not available at your campus, you can go to the other one (electives at both the campus are different). I really liked this option.

Ankur can provide more insights once hes attended the session i guess.

Hi Fnds,

I attended Info session at Mumbai today and it was a great feeling to interact with ISB alums.

Health care management & manufacturing will be available at Mohali only and in the same way IT management and entrepreneurship will be part of Hyd campus only.

All other majors will be available at both campus and applicants will be asked about their preference but the final decision will be taken by ISB.

All other things like placement and guest faculty lectures will be same for both the campus.

I hope it helped !!

does "Health care management & manufacturing" come under the same domain ? or is manufacturing a separate stream at ISB ?

Wadhwani centre for entrepreneurship has its base in HYD, so I guess they kept it there itself.

Is there a higher probability to get through if one applies in R1 ?
Cheers !!

Hi Pushkal,

I can feel your curiosity. Here is my reply

1. Health care management & Manufacturing are separate domains.
2. Entrepreneurship will be a part of Hyd campus only.
3. Every college says that its better to apply in R1 provided you are ready with good applications.
Better to apply in R2 if you are not well prepared for R1.

hi ankur, I have also started the app process ( No GMAT yet :( ), one thing, I have a 26 month IT experience in Mumbai as u know, so I will use 1 recommendation from my manager.

since then I am working in a startup company(i am the partner) in a small town, none of my clients have official email id's(they dont own websites- so they use gmail/yahoo). ISB has clearly mentioned that they want a company email id. Will the gmail ID of one of my clients suffice ?
Cheers !!

Hi Pushkal,

You can have 1 reco from your past company manager and other from any client/vendor.

Regarding company mail ID you need to write down mail to ISB adcom and must take their permission before applying for program.

Hope it helped. All the best for your applications.

i will also start writing soon.
