Wow guys seems like you have a really active thread on ISB. Even I am aspirant. I have been more of a watcher till now. Just took GMAT last week, got 760 (M:48, V:47). I am beginning to understand the app process. Seems to be fairly demanding. Does ISB give more importance to scores than other B-schools in its league?

Hi Pushkal,

You can have 1 reco from your past company manager and other from any client/vendor.

Regarding company mail ID you need to write down mail to ISB adcom and must take their permission before applying for program.

Hope it helped. All the best for your applications.

i will also start writing soon.

hi ankur,
you mean to say I need to take permission from adcom for authorizing a gmail id as official recommender id, correct?

or do i need permission to apply to the program. :P

i'll write a mail to them today itself.
Cheers !!

I mean to say if you have only one recommender available, in that case you shall write down a mail to ISB and consult them.

They will guide you on this issue and will decide.

really usefull thread! I also have my GMAT scheduled on 16th aug, scoring around 650 in mocks. I only wanted to apply in R1 if i can manage to get 700+ and for this am ready to reschedule my exam also.
But i am bit skeptical about the R1-R2 process of admission, there are some rumours that comparitively chances are better if you apply in R1. I am really not sure about this info...could someone pls throw some light on this.
My profile is 4.5 yrs in IT with some good EC's.

Thanks for starting this thread!

Hi,
Best of luck for your GMAT.

R2 are generally more competitive than R1. But don't be in hurry for application.
In case your application is not entirely ready, wait till R2 for application

I have a query regarding essays:

in essay 1) What qualities in our achievements adcom are looking for.
in essay 2) While defining our clear goal for 3 years, position we plan to be at after 3 years should be outlined or the role in which we see ourselves.
in essay 3) Can awards/achievements/success stories be discussed here which are not outlined in previous essays?

Here are the answers:

1) This is the million dollar question. No one would know this other than the ad com people. We just need to describe the achievements we are proud of.

2) The more clear the better. They would be looking at clarity of the goals you want to accomplish.

3) Yes.

Hi jimmy4444,

Congrats on a really great GMAT score. 760 is in the top 10% bracket at ISB. GMAT score was just one step. Now everything boils down to your essays and application. I've personally seen candidates with 780 getting rejected. So concentrate on your essays, put forward a coherent story and an effective application and the journey would be great.

You have more than a month and half to apply which is a fairly sufficient time to work on the essays. If you need some understanding on the process, do feel free to call us at +91 9560368899.

Hi gauravjha,

1. If you follow this approach in your essays, there is a risk that they may turn out to be very similar to others, and worse, boring. AdCom wants to see who you are, how you are fit for an MBA, how you are already a leader and you just need a little polishing. This is the overall picture that every adcom expects from the essays and application in addition to other related skills.

2. Position does not matter a lot. You can be CEO of a company with 5 people but you cannot be a CEO of a billion dollar organization (unless it is a family business). So these 2 profiles cannot be compared. Role is more important, rather that's the only thing which is important. Tell them how your short term goal will lead to your long term goal. The 3 year time horizon is just an indication of the period during which you will be working toward achieving your long term goal.

3. Yes, of course as long as they are supplemented with relevant stories/examples. If there is no example, it is a reiteration of the resume and thus, redundant.

Hope that helps.
