Hi Vishwanath,

Though you have a diverse profile - a consultant but your GMAT score is below average for candidates with 4 yrs of experience. Your public sector exposure can help differentiate your candidature and make sure that you use your sports achievements well to portray a holistic profile. But you will need to do a brilliant job with your essays.

Feel free to contact us for any queries.

Kindly evaluate the profile. Your help on this would be much appreciated!

Hi Vineela,

Your profile may be a typical IT profile but it looks interesting when you mention considerable work ex in Japan and showcase your decent extra currics.

ISB rarely takes anyone with 2 yrs of experience at the time of joining, so ideally we would recommend that you wait for one more year and then apply. Also try to target a 730+ on GMAT.

We would not recommend applying this year if you get anything less than 740 as GMAT score is very important for applicants with less work ex.

Please evaluate my profile for ISB.

Background: 24 year old male from India.

GMAT: 730 (Q50,V38). Gave it yesterday so still waiting for the AWA+IR scores.

College: Bachelor of Engineering(Computers) from University of Pune, India. Graduated in 2010 with an aggregate of 62.6%. This may seem low but considering our university gave a distinction at 66% (as compared to 75% in other Indian universities) it is an average score.

Work Experience: 24 months as on today. Working as a Consultant in one of the Big 4 professional services firms. My work is mostly related to Identity and Access management. We assess and implement Identity Management solutions. In my two years, I have worked on Fortune 500 clients from the US. Implemented almost one half of a multi milion dollar project(for which I was given an award.) Led a team of 2 people(both Consultants themselves) in the project mentioned above. Apart from client work, I have participated in practice development activities as well

Extracurricular
1. I have participated in quite a few extra curricular events in college related to Dramatics, Music, Improv and Quiz.
2. I was the vocalist of the college band.
3. Formed the official office band in my new office location.
4. In charge of managing a few events in the intra college cultural festival.
5. Organized the music segment of our annual office function.

Post MBA Goal: After an MBA I want to get into strategy consulting.

Really appreciate the help!

Hi,

Below is my profile. Would appreciate a feedback on this.

Education
X - 81%
XII - 85%
B.E Electrical NIT - 8.2
GMAT - 760 AWA 4.5

Work Exp: 37 Months in L&T as Sr. Sales Engineer (B2B Marketing).
- Direct customer Coverage.
- Channel partner management
- Conducting technical Seminars

Currently(For last six months), working as a co-ordinator in a NGO. Though not officially on their payroll list, I am involved full-time in their day-to-day activities.
- Coordinating free health care activities in 8 Govt schools
- Building a network of doctors & hospitals interested in Social activities
- Providing health related trainings to Non-medical volunteers through CSR teams of hospitals.
- Coordinating awareness talks in schools through these trained volunteers
- Volunteer management in particular region (40 volunteers)

Extra curricular:
1) Senior Correspondent at one of the Sports website in India
2) Ranked 28th in All India Sudoku finals after qualifying through Bangalore regional round by securing 2nd position.
3) Played Football & Hockey at Distirct & College level. Currently playing in Bangalore District League Football.
4) NCC B Certificate holder

Now this would be ideal time for me to apply. But, I have a problem. My 3 years work ex at L&T hasn't been really great. There is no achievement to show for. Nor would I expect a great recommendation from my manager there.

So what would be your advice? Should I work for two more years or apply now?

All looks good with your profile except the less work experience. There are few candidates who make it to ISB with 2 yrs of experience at the time of applciation but yout essays, video and recos should all be great.

Dont hurry things. Target R2 and give your best shot.

If we dont look at your GMAT score, everything looks great. Experience of 2 diverse sectors- automobile & healthcare, manufacturing experience, international exposure all make the candidature rock solid as far as ISB is concerned.

You can apply at 650. Your work experience can compensate for your low GMAT. But if you really dont want to leave anything to chance, retake GMAT and get a 680+.
