Hi Roy,

Your profile looks decent. 710 is average ( but not bad at all). Your education from kelley & international experience will help you differentiate you. You will be treated as an IT consultant so focus more on highlighting client interaction and team work rather than technical aspects of implementation.

Your experience is less than average in terms of duration. So, your recommendations will have to play an important role in positioning you as an experienced and mature professional.

Try to also highlight extra curriculars such as Phi Chi Theta Business Fraternity engagement so that you can add some brownie points.

Hope this helps.

I am an ISB aspirant who recently took the GMAT and needs some help to decide if I should attempt again.

My profile in brief

1. Ex-VP from Goldman Sachs - total ex 5 yrs 10 months
2. BBM Christ College - 70% +
3. 10th and 12th CBSE 90%

Strong extra-curricular record, part of student committee during BBM, won various events. Participated in CSR activities at GS and managed a team.

The only hitch is my GMAT score of 650 (Q 39, V 40)

Should I apply with this score or take the GMAT again?

Thanks for all your help!

Vivek.
Hi Vivek,

Though we believe that with a 6+ yrs of experience at Goldman and leadership position you will have ample achievements and experience to get you an interview call at 650 as well but if ISB is your main target, we would recommend retaking GMAT and getting a 680+ so that you dont leave anything to chance.

Feel free to contact us for any queries.

Hi Sahil,

Did you mention Female gender by mistake :)
ISB doesnt take freshers for regular PGP. They have started a new way of getting admitted to PGP - ISB YLP program.

Applicants have to apply in final year of graduation and if selected have to get a work experience of 2 years before joining PGP. For details visit: https://www.goisb.com/ISB_YLP_deadlines_ ... mation.php

Hope this helps.

Hi goISB team,

Am a strange one. I am a media professional, totally in creative content creation department, with an education background of a college degree and my PG in Intellectual Property Rights. I haven't taken up GMAT till date but my experience runs quite deep - about a dozen years with 5+ years with top television channels. I am currently on my sabbatical so all my brain circuits are going haywire and strongly hinting me to go for a career shift and enter corporate now. For achievements, I have few awards in my kitty and few of my creations have won international and national acclaim as well.

Tell me what chances I might have if I ended up earning a 'decent' GMAT score.

Thanks
GD Singh

There are hardly any applicants from this kind of background to ISB. Get a decent GMAT score..say 680 or so and present a good story on goals and you should be able to hit the interview table.

Hello team goISB,

Can you please evaluate my profile?

Work Experience: 5 yrs in advertising and have worked on marketing campaigns for major FMCG brands like ITC, Britannia and UB.

Profile: Have handled a team of 2 members

Acads: M.Sc. Electronic Media (5 yrs intg.) - GPA of 7.216 out of 10
XII - 66.4%
X - 73.6%

Extra-curricular Activities & Accolades: 1. Been a part of a theatre group for a year and have performed on stage
2. Have participated and won many cultural events related to advertising at an inter collegiate level
3. Received appreciation at the National World Gold Council Jewellery Designing competition

GMAT Score - yet to appear

Would my scores obtained in school prove to be a disadvantage since they aren't the best of scores? What kind of an approximate score should I get on the GMAT with my profile? Additionally, I'm on a break right now to prepare for the GMAT, would that be seen as a negative?

Thanks!

Hi Rachita,

Advertising experience and experience of working on good brands can help you create your space in the clutter.

Extra currics look different and good.

Dont worry a lot about your school grades. A decent GMAT score of close to 700 can help you provide your academic ability.

Yes, a break can prove negative because when all other applicants can get a decent GMAT score while working, your taking a break to prepare for GMAT can put a question mark on academic ability. So, try to patch that up with some consulting/ freelance assignment.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ankit,

As of now your profile looks neither too great nor too bad. GMAT score is average and your profile is a typical IT profile. Agree you have tried your hand at various extra currics but it looks more like a laundry lists of activities done at fests at college level and nothing really stands out.

So, a lot will depend on how you present everything in essays and how good your video is.
Retaking the GMAT and improving the score to a 730 or so will obviously help.

Feel free to contact us for any queries.

Hi Priyanka,

Without getting into other aspects of your profile, we want to comment on 2 things.

Work ex duration- You might not even meet the minimum requirement i.e. 2 years. So, check with ISB whether they will consider you as eligible.

GMAT - GMAT is way too low. Profile is decent but still since the duration is less it cant compensate for the low GMAT score.

We suggest that you wait for an year and also retake GMAT.

Thanks a tonne for the response and advice, team goISB. A break was something that I couldn't help since my work hours were erratic leaving no scope to prepare. Its a huge risk that I've taken but then again what's life without a few risks?! :)
