Dear Sir,

I need your help and a suggestion on whether i should take the GMAT again.

I am planning to apply to ISB for 2013 and here is my background -

Work Ex - 3+yrs
Profile - Sales and Marketing. Handling key accounts for the company.
Graduation - BTech Electronics; CGPA - 9.2/10
12th - 92%
10th - 86%
Current GMAT score - 690 (Q-47,V-37)

Decent extra curricular activities.

I understand this is a very short description to actually get a complete picture.
However, I need on inputs on the feasibility of getting into ISB.

Thanks.

Hi,
I have two years to go before i will give my gmat and apply for ISB.My btech just got over and i am to join a company that is a global provider of financial services technology as an associate software engg.

Xth- 90.8%
XIIth- 86.7%
btech- 62.7%

besides this ive been involved from athletics to singing, dramatics and speeches in school and in college ive participated in various innovation based paper presentations, organized workshops to do with aeromodelling ,been editor of dept newsletter etc. I do not have certificates for all of the above, so that creates a bit of a problem.

My hobbies include gathering knowledge about varied subjects from finance to psychology to fashion.

Since I have two years to prepare myself and I know that my btech % and few certificates will be a problem, what can i do besides preparing for an excellent gmat score to make it through?

You can apply with 690. Your GPA is decent and 3 yrs of experience in sales and marketing will also help you as few applicants have pre MBA sales/ marketing experience.

Lot will actually depend on your essays and video so make sure that you devote ample time and get them reviewed by an alum or a consultant.

Hi Kokila,

Your extra curriculars look very good. So, instead of adding more in next few years just continue with what you have done.

Apart from focusing on GMAT, work hard at the workplace to get promotions, appreciations and more challenging projects. Focus on client facing roles ( in your case maybe the client is internal teams only) or team lead roles.

At 2 yrs of experience, adcom should get a feeling that this applicant has achieved more than what regular employees do.

Feel free to contact us for any queries.

Thank you goISB Team. I certainly feel more optimistic now!

One additional question i have is that whether applying for R2 decreases the chances of acceptance. I have interacted with a few ISB admission faculty before and they always mention that applying for R1 or R2 doesn't have any advantage or disadvantage.

But i would like to know your perspective on this.

Could you please evaluate my profile?

High School (12th) from South Africa: 80%
Undergrad from NYU: GPA 3.8
Masters from NYU: GPA 4.0

5 years working in Finance as a software consultant (Lehman Brothers, HSBC, a few hedge funds)
1 year work with my own NGO that I started in Africa using advertising for Non Profit purposes.
2 years in outdoor advertising as EA to COO (2 promotions: From Executive (Sales) to Sales Coordinator, to EA to COO).

8 years of total work experience.
6 years abroad (USA 5, India 2, Africa 1)

On the writing staff of well known television shows and stand up comedy writer.

My GMAT attempts are not going as expected. What is the bare minimum GMAT for me to apply to ISB and INSEAD?

Short reply : Your profile is good both for ISB and INSEAD. For ISB look at a 680 and for INSEAD a 700 atleast.

Hi goISB team,

I am an ISB aspirant who recently took the GMAT and needs some help to decide if I should attempt again.

My profile in brief

1. Ex-VP from Goldman Sachs - total ex 5 yrs 10 months
2. BBM Christ College - 70% +
3. 10th and 12th CBSE 90%

Strong extra-curricular record, part of student committee during BBM, won various events. Participated in CSR activities at GS and managed a team.

The only hitch is my GMAT score of 650 (Q 39, V 40)

Should I apply with this score or take the GMAT again?

Thanks for all your help!

Vivek.

Hi,

As discussed, our major concern in that ISB might not consider you as eligible. Drop a mail to ISB explaining them your case and hope for the best.

Yes Sid. You have a decent chance of getting an interview call. Every batch at ISB has 5-7 Marine engineers. Your GMAT score is fine. Present your extra currics well.

Also, make sure that you do good research on what companies ( e.g, imaritime) come to ISB and recruit marine engineers and make a goals story around that.

Feel free to contact us for any queries.
