Everything looks fine with your profile. International exp will help. Try to get a 710+ on GMAT given that you come from a tech services background.

I see that your have a couple of banking / investment related certifications. That can add additional dimension to your profile. So, see how can you extend that. Can you work part time with some firm?

Can you start a blog which talks about interesting stuff in baking/ investments and have some followers.

All this will add another dimension in your profile and given you a talking point in the interview.

Hello,
Here is a brief summary of my profile-
Bachelor's in EEE, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore-GPA-7.7/10
Master's in Electrical Engineering, Arizona State University ( Power and energy systems) GPA-3.3/4
GMAT-720
Work Experience- Two and half years as of now ( planning to apply of 2018/2019) in one of the top 3 power and energy companies in USA. ( I never worked in India and have no domestic experience). I worked on large scale solar projects ( with companies like Sun Edison and First Solar) in USA.
Since I am planning to wait for another 1 year before applying, how realistic is my goal to get into ISB? and also what can I do to improve my chances?
As of now, I may be lacking some leadership experience and I am working towards it.

Your profile fits the bill. Considering your experience being a tad below the average range and your undergraduate performance, you will need a 730+ on the GMAT to get noticed.

Best,

Everything is good with your candidature. GMAT score is decent. MS from US and power sector experience differentiates you. If you can add some leadership experience during next 1 yr it will be great. Even if you can't no need to sweat about it.

Try to build a good story on why you want to come back and do your MBA from an Indian school.

Hi guys,
I need your views on my profile. Took GMAT last year, but didn't apply for any school due to certain personal matters. Anyways, my profile is definitely one of those which can get rejected easily, due to certain academic issues.Hence need your honest views? Do I give it a try, or just stop wasting time?

Aspiration- ISB Hyderabad, IIM Ahmedabad. GMAT Score- 720

Profile:-
X- 74%
XII- 56% (That too post failing a year)
BBA- BIT Mesra, 76.7% (7 CGPA)
PGSDP in Creative Communications- Mudra Institute of Communications
MBA- UBS Chandigarh (2008)- 69% ( among top 10 in Punjab University)

Work Experience- 8 years.
Pre MBA:- ran an ad agency for 1 year. Then it went on Sale

Post MBA:- Aditya Birla Group:- from 2008-15 in Telecom Business. Was awarded the best young talent of the group for 2013. Roles- Rural Sales, and Corporate Product marketing. Currently working with another Telecom operator, as a Deputy General Manager.

Story/ Extracurriculars:-
Started very young as a musician. Went on to achieve national level success as a classical vocalist, and fusion artiste.(While screwing up my acads in 12th and later). Worked with famous composers, and artistes.

Also worked as a copywriter/jingle maker/consultant/associate, working for ad firms, TV commercials, independent brands.

Music perished due to better compeitiors in classical/fusion vocals. Copywriting perished, because my entrepreneurial venture ran into financing troubles. Why the Second MBA? I might have to figure out a very substantial explanation.

Hi,

Not sure if we missed something you mentioned but we dont see anything wrong on the academic front. Your GMAT score is good. Work ex also looks good though you will need to strongly defend the need of second MBA ( as you mentioned) and it can be done. Overall, it is a holistically balanced candidature for both IIMA and ISB.

While writing essays dont come across as someone who has tried his hand at everything. Pick two or three strong skills/activities and highlight them.

Entrepreneurial experience is a big plus if you highlight the learnings.

So, in our opinion you should get started with the applications of both schools.

Feel free to contact us for any queries.

Hi skkar,

After 8 years of work experience, the adcoms wil have little focus on your academics. However, you certainly would be required to provide solid reasons on 'Why a second MBA?'. Your extra curriculars are impressive. You have a good chance at both ISB and IIMA. While creating applications to these bschools, focus on your achievements at work, short term long terms goals, how well aligned they are with your past experience and need for an MBA again.

All the best!

Why MBA?

The banking industry has fascinated me and it is going through a massive phase shift with the advent of latest technological development. MBA from ISB at this juncture will be handful to realize this.

Thanks in advance for reviewing my profile.
