Hi

I need you to evaluate my profile for ISB.

GMAT score: 660 (I know it's not the best score for applying to ISB, really worried about it!)

Acads: X - 93% (CBSE)
XII - 95%
BE - 75%
MTech - 70% (from IIIT Bangalore)

Experience: 3+ years in Samsung Research India

I have worked on 4 projects in my 3+ years of experience in Samsung, and have been accredited with awards in each of the projects for my performance. I have also been involved in extra curricular activities in my work life. I am a part of the culture team in Samsung where we work on organizing different cultural activities for employees every week. I am also a part of the dance group in office and have been involved in several dance performances at corporate level.

On personal front, I have been involved with few NGOs, not any particular one, for different kinds of volunteer work. I have also cleared SSB (Service Selection Board) for Indian Airforce, which I personally believe to be my biggest achievement till date! During college I was a member of the placement committee in IIIT and also the culture team. In undergrad also I was involved in plenty of extra curricular activities like organizing tech fests for college, writing in the college journal, spreading awareness about voting(during 2009 general elections in a joint campaign with JaagoRe), etc.

I have started building my application for ISB but wanted to know the chances to keep a reality check.

Thanks!

Hello,

Can someone please evaluate my profile for ISB?

I gave my GMAT last Saturday and got a score of 670 with an IR score of 6 and AWA 4.
I want to get your opinion on whether I should apply for ISB round 2.

Here is my profile -
10th - 94% (CBSE Board)
12th - 85% (CBSE Board)

Graduated from DAIICT (Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology) with a CPI of 8.3.

I am currently working with Deloitte Consulting and have completed 3 years & 4 months with the firm as a Business Technology Analyst.
I will get very strong recommendations from the firm (even from the very senior leaders).
Have been involved in community service for the past 3 years.

Do I have an outside chance of getting into ISB if I manage to build a strong application?

Please respond at the earliest.

Thanks!

Hi!

While your GMAT is a concern, its not really enough to dissuade your from trying. If you had time, I would advise you to re-take the exam, but perhaps you can take a chance with your present score and an extremely strong application. Back it up with a rock solid interview and you can count yourself in! Go for it! Good Luck and God Bless!

Hi @nadiaakhtar! Your profile is interesting indeed and despite the low GMAT, you may be hopeful of an interview call if your strengths and career goals are presented well. You will have to do exceptionally well in the interview though. So the idea is to maximize your pre-interview score.

All the Best!

Hi @mba_isb2014! Your professional experience seems rich and despite a low GMAT, you have a very fair chance of getting an interview call. Don't give up hope and work well to build a strong application.

Hi mba_isb2014,

With 670 and 4 years of experience at tech analyst, chances look bleak to us.

Can you share details about your extra currics apart from the community service. Bschools have stopped giving lot of value to community service. Reason: Every applicants writes that he/she was involved in some kind of activity. Community service and college tech fest participation are cliched.
Also, please throw some light on your career progression in these 3.5 years, achievements, projects you have handled etc.

Hi Rohit,

While your GMAT score is a bit average other aspects of profile look interesting. Focus less on the technology aspects of your profile at Cognizant and try to highlight client interaction ( if any) and teamwork. On CPGDBA, the diploma per se will not help unless you talk about the leanings and skill enhancement.

Entrepreneurial experience looks interesting. Use that to focus on skills which complement skills gained at Cognizant. But ensure that you dont blend Entrepreneurship with post MBA goals. Many applicants muddy up venture and job in goals and fall flat.

Combine strong essays with solid recos. Dont take both recos from similar recommenders. One from supervisor and other from client should be good.

Feel free to contact us for any queries.

I have more than 10 years of work experience in IT industry, currently working as as project manager in a product based company. I have around 2 years of overseas experience working as onsite manager at client site. For detailed profile attaching my resume.

I want to apply to ISB for PGP, can you please evaluate and let me know if I stand a chance or not.
Hi Shaleen,

We would strongly recommend that you apply. Your profile looks good. While GMAT score is average, your 10 yrs of experience is more than enough to compensate for that.

You can highlight client interaction, project management ( downplay the tech aspects like scrum meetings, waterfall model etc) but try to talk about aspects which cut across industries e.g. time and resource management, risk management, planning, communication etc), and international experience.

While ISB will not have doubts on your skillset and achievement, the need of MBA after 10 years of experience has to be explained well. Adcom should realize that your decision is a well thought through decision, you have clarity on your goals and IT career reaching a plateau is not the reason for applying to ISB. If you can show the passion and need of a MBA ( driven by a goal) you are all set.

Let us know if you have any queries.

Hi @jampacked! Your profile looks perfect and with the international exposure, startup / entrepreneurship experience and a differentiated industry, you should be able to target some of the top schools including ISB. Your GMAT score break-up should also work in your favour. (high quant and less than 35 verbal) isn't very exciting to B-schools. So, overall you are good to go. Give your best to the application.

All the Best!
