E. John was not ready to move to the new company since it was not rated highly by any investment company

I think the split between d and e is past perfect and simple past. You can either use since or because.

Grammatically, though, "its" can't modify "John", because he's a "he" not an "it." D is still clearer.

D uses was and the perfect tense clearly but whats wrong with E ?

Between D and E

D . John was not ready to move to the new company because no investment company had rated it highly - The pronoun 'it' may seem ambiguous but a closer observation reveals that it cannot refer to the investment company as the meaning of the sentence may get distorted .

How can an investment company rate itself ?

Another example -

The car hit the tree and hence its tires were replaced .

Here clearly its refers to car as its nonsensical to mean that trees have tires .

Compared to D , E becomes wordy .

I think D should be correct here.
1)Because the process of ratification happened first & then John decided not to move to a new company
2)"because" is preferred over "since"
3) D is concise and clear.

I am seeking explanation about B. why B is wrong.

B contain "ITS" and D contain "IT". This might not be distinction that ITS is wrong in B.

In B, I can see that
preposition + Noun + Ving construction which leads me to some doubt about B.
