I've been a lurker here for the past year and have been studying for the gmat in hopes to apply this year. I'm in san jose, ca and shooting for the part time program at Haas. I have lofty goals and would love an MBA from Haas to achieve them.

The forum provides a lot of great advice and tips so I finally thought it would be about time to join the community!

I've been a lurker on here for some time now. I am an Electrical Engineer here at Minneapolis. I have a graduate degree in Electrical Engineering but am looking to shift towards consulting/strategy in future. I have given myself 2 years to build up a considerable and marketable profile. I am shooting for one of Harvard/MIT/Wharton/Kellogg/INSEAD/LBS/Booth/Ross/Fuqua/Haas/Stern. I think I will give my GMAT in the beginning of 2013 or at the end of 2012. If there's anyone else from the Twin Cities area, message me. I'd love to catch up.

iam from hyderabad,enthusiastically preparing for gmat,working for an upstream oil company(8+ years).Though my previous gmat score is low this time iam aiming for decent a score.I would like to Know any coaching centers for gmat in Hyderabad.How to improve performance in Reading Comprehension questions?

Hello to Everyone!
I am an equity trader from Maryland with an undergraduate degree in Finance. I have finally decided to study for the GMAT after debating for 3years. I have scheduled my test for June 2nd after beginning my GMAT studies on March 13th. My weak areas from the start are the Quant sections. I know I will need to spend plenty of time on these sections and if there are any suggestions for me in this area it will be GREATLY appreciated. My goal is to score north of 700. I have a deep desire to attend Wharton's Executive MBA program in May of 2013. This should give me plenty of time to learn all this information in order to score well. I am only on DAY 9 of BTG study program. I work 9-5 and have been waking up at 4am to study until 6am with 5 hours on Sat and Sun. I am currently using Manhattan GMAT study guides along with the Kaplan Premier Book. I have not taken a Full practice yet because I feel like this stuff is totally foreign. Once I get through all the quant sections I will dive in and take one. If there are any thoughts on the best way to succeed given this info please share. Looking forward to conquering this mountain soon! Best wishes to all who are this with me.

I've been watching you guys from the shadows for a couple of weeks now and I have just made the courage of saying an official 'hello' to all of you.

As the nickname states- I'm Andrei, currently a final year student in Government and Economics at the University of Leicester, expecting to graduate with a high First (for those of you who are aware of the UK degree classification system).

I think the main reason why I have joined your community is straightforward and does not need any further introduction. A secondary reason would be that I am a bit of a rookie when it comes to the GMAT and I must say that the schools I am looking at, ask for GMAT scores above the 'magic' 7. An appendix to this would be the fact that I am seeking to apply to a Msc in Financial Economics, rather than an MBA (age and inexperience being the 'only' barriers, alas!).

I have yet to set up an examination date, but I am looking to sit the test somewhere around mid-summer, so there is plenty of time and no reason to panic about preparations (... I think). The score I am aiming for is around the 750-760+ barrier and from what I have read up until this point about the GMAT, I'm in for a bumpy ride. Nonetheless, my undergrad degree has basically been a GMAT test ever since my first days of university. My numerical and verbal skills have been tested countless of times in essays, courseworks exams and so forth in a verbal and analytical subject such as Politics and in a numerical and critical reasoning orientated one like Economics, leaving my brained trained and structured for a GMAT test. Therefore my remaining tasks are to structure my university inherited prowess in a GMAT orientated one, learn high scoring strategies and further practice weak areas until perfection.

This is the part where you, GMAT gurus, have to aid me and provide me with invaluable assisstance and feedback. If you will do so, I will forever be in your debt! I am looking forward to a fructous, prolonged co-operation and, why not, friendship. Thank you very much for the chance of being here!

This is sindhuri from India,I am an Engineer from computer science background.I have been working since 6 months and did an Intern(Banking sector)in the middle east last summer.

The reason I am here is quite obvious to crack GMAT!!!One of my friend suggested that this is a great forum to answer your queries and I couldn't agree more.I would like to thank Eric for his brilliant idea and help us this way,and also I would like to take this oppurtunity to engage myself in the forum and get all my doubts cleared.


After a little bit of preparation,I scheduled my exam on 26th of this month.I think Iam not ready for the test yet,so would be postponing it to next month or august.

I have a few questions to ask,
I would like to do my MBA next year, but then I donot have enough experience (almost every b-school asks for atleast 2 years of work-ex).May be by the end of next year I would gain 2 years of workex.Can you please guide me if there are schools which take students without 2 years of work-ex? And about colleges that offer one year courses?

Hi sindhuri. There are a lot of schools which accept less work ex. But then these are not really the schools you want to get into. Why are you in such a rush for your mba? In the long term the 1 year extra you spend at your work place wont really matter but the brand of the school and the network of the school you go to is really going to be there with you forever. Dont rush into the mba decision. Also looking at the enormous amount of case studies , I think your experience would help you learn more at a b school. think about it. Other wise there are a lot of schools offering 1 year programs and schools that accept marginally 2 yrs exp.

Thanks a lot for your valuable advice.True that! I'll definetely consider your advice and try to postpone my admission process.But, I may not be able to do MBA after wards if its not next year,as there are many reasons which I can't mention here.

Could you please suggest me how many years of work-ex would be good before I apply for universities?

I heard that INSEAD is very good, and one of the top b-schools which offer just a 10 month course,but its really tough to get into such a university with less experience.Even though I have really good acads and active in extra-cirricular activities,abroad universities actually don't consider Indian grades.
