If x and y are positive, is the ratio of x to y greater than 3?

(1) The ratio of 2x to 3y is greater than 2.

(2) x is 2 more than y times 3.

If x and y are positive, is the ratio of x to y greater than 3?
The question can be rephrased to If x,y>0 Is x>3y ?
(1) The ratio of 2x to 3y is greater than 2.

(2x/3y) > 2
x/y > 3(Multiplying both sides with 3/2).
So, statement 1 is sufficient to answer the question.
(2) x is 2 more than y times 3.
x = 3y+2. 3y+2>3y. i.e x>3y.
So, statement 2 is sufficient to answer the question.

Question is: Is x/y > 3?

(1) The ratio of 2x to 3y is greater than 2.
2x/3y > 2
x > 3y or x/y > 3; SUFFICIENT.

(2) x is 2 more than y times 3.
x = 2 + 3y implies x is 2 more than 3y; SUFFICIENT.

The correct answer is D.
