If the least common multiple of two prime numbers x and y is 10, where x > y, then what is the value of 2 x + y?
(A) 7
(B) 9
(C) 11
(D) 12
(E) 21

10 = 1*10 = 2*5

Hence, the prime numbers must be 2 and 5.
As x > y, y = 2 and x = 5

Hence, 2x + y = 2*5 + 2 = 12

The correct answer is D.

If the least common multiple of two prime numbers x and y is 10, where x > y, then what is the value of 2 x + y?

x,y are definitely less than 10 and are prime numbers. 2,3,5,7 are the only prime numbers below 10, of which 2,5 are multiples of 10, that makes x,y = 2,5 or 5,2.

x > y (from the question) => x = 5, and y = 2 => 2x+y =[spoiler] 2*5+2 = 12 [/spoiler]

Answer: optionD
