What is the value of j?
I.j = k - l, where k + l = 20 and k is a factor of l.
from this statement you know,
a) l = x*k(where x is an integer > 1)
b) k,l > 0
c) The value of j(=k-l)<0

So, if l = x*k(where x is an integer > 1), k + l = (1+x)*k = 20
The possible values of((1+x),k) are (2,10),(10,2),(4,5),(5,4)
i.e. The possible values of(x,k,j) are (1,10,0),(9,2,-16),(3,5,-10),(4,4,-12)
Insufficient to answer the question
II.|j| = 12.

The value of j = +12.
Insufficient to answer the question
From I and II
The value of j = -12. IMO C

Statement 1:
some (k,l) pairs are (2,18),(4,16),(5,15),(-2,22) etc
accordingly j has various values apart from -12.

INSUFFICIENT

Statement 2:
j=-12 or 12
INSUFFICIENT

Combining (C) is the answer
j=-12
