When should we use so as to vs so that

Last week Frank repackaged and mailed back his new, but defective, stereo so as to receive a refund.

A
so as to receive
B
in order that he would receive
C
to be receiving
D
with intent to be receiving

so that he could receive

The rule for so as to is "so [adj.] as to [verb]" here the sentence is using the idiom incorrectly because there is no adj that comes after so. The act was "so" aggrevious "as to" cause reprimand by her peers.

I am also confused btw A and E but would have gone for A.....................if we talk about so that then the correct idiom is so x that y.............someone please help.........

'So X as to Y' is the correct idiomatic usage. I am not sure if 'so as to' is correct!!

As regards this question, it is based on idiomatic expression, X happened so that Y could happen. The correct answer should be E.

Anyways, whats the OA??

I cant be sure abt this but i read somewhere that on gMAT almost everytime So as to ..if used without this form : So/such..(adj/adverb)+ as to.... is wrong ...may be thats why i shall also opt for E ..

RON your inputs shall be the elixir here on this confusion about SO AS TO vs SO/such THAT
