Kim has 40 percent more money than Sal and Sal has 20 percent less money than Phil. If Sal and Phil have a combined total of $1.80, how much money does Kim have?

(A) $1.00
(B) $1.12
(C) $1.20
(D) $1.32
(E) $1.40

S+P=1.8

0.8P+P=1.8
1.8P=1.8
P=1
S=0.8
K=1.4*0.8=1.12

Let you assume that the total money with Sal is 100x. Then from the question, total money with Kim is 140x and total money with Phil is 100x/0.8

Sal and Phil have a combined total of $1.80.
Implies, 100x + (100x/0.8) = $1.80
Implies, 180x/0.8 = 1.80
Implies, x = 0.8/100

How much money does Kim have ? = 140x = 140*(0.8/100) = [spoiler]$1.12 Ans: B. [/spoiler]
