like is not the correct usage,as we are listing out examples. so 3,4 out.
contributed to is the correct idiom,2,5 out.

1- remains. so A is the answer.

Yes I missed this idiom but " such baritone singers as X and Y" is this good???

Baritone singers such as X and Y is what I was expecting..
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement

such as and such X as .. both are correct.

I messed this question. I knew that we use such as to represent examples in GMAT but got confused with 'like' should be used to represent persons even in examples.

Now I recollect that this is applicable to comparisons and 'such as' is always used to represent examples.

even i have no idea abt tht..thts y felt POE is best here, whn we cant say wth confidence tht the given form is incorrect.

In B, the decade of the 1930s is an error of redundancy. Eliminate B.

In C and D, like should not be used to introduce examples. Eliminate C and D.

In E, had contributed should not be in the past perfect tense, since this action took place after the 1930s commenced. Eliminate E.

The correct answer is A.

I understood the explanation, but have a very specific doubt.

in A: such baritone singers as Bing Crosby and Russ Columbo
in E: baritone singers such as Bing Crosby and Russ Columbo

Are both usage correct? Can someone please elaborate a little about this?

I think both are idiomatic:
(i) Such ...as X and Y
(ii) ...such as X and Y

SUCH motivating music AS musicA AND musicB are interesting to me.
I love listening to motivating music SUCH AS musicA and MusicB.

the above sentences are valid gmat-type idiomatic expressions.
