An absolute adjective has a meaning that cannot be intensified or compared.gmatjeet wrote:I understood the explanation, but have a very specific doubt.
in A: such baritone singers as Bing Crosby and Russ Columbo
in E: baritone singers such as Bing Crosby and Russ Columbo
Are both usage correct? Can someone please elaborate a little about this?
Dead is an absolute adjective. A person can't be "more dead" or "the most dead".
Baritone feels like an absolute adjective. One singer can't be "more baritone" than another.
When such precedes an adjective, it acts as an intensifier.
Since baritone is an adjective that can't be intensified, it is incorrect to place such in front of baritone.
