statement 1
int 4 is closest to x+y
3.5<=x+y<4.5
Not sufficient since no way to determine even a rough x

statement 2
.5<=x-y<1.5
same as previous
Not sufficient

statement 1/2 together
You are tempted to say:
x+y=4
x-y=1
-------
2y=3
y=3/2 and then x= 5/2 which x would be closest to 3

HOWEVER the actual equation would be:

3.5<=x+y<4.5
.5<=x-y<1.5


I would say E.
