The yield of natural gas from Norway's Troll gas field is expected to increase annually until the year 2005 and then to stabilize at six billion cubic feet a day, which will allow such an extraction rate at least for 50 years' production.

The yield of natural gas is expected to do two things - to increase ... and then to stabilize ...

C/D/E - stabilizing is not parallel to 'to increase'
A/E - which refers to day - wrong usage.

IMO B.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

So, when you use which it can only refer to the noun right before it, not the whole noun phrase, right? That is why A and E are wrong. So we must use an extraction rate because in A we don't know what which is referring to.

Did you really get it on GMATPrep? This is a OG12 question (#63).

This kind of a construction is very common on GMAT and it would benefit you to be comfortable with this. Couple of other OG problems that use this construct are #38 and #48.

By the way, you might want to correct "alloying" to "allowing" in option D.
