Hello experts,

I used the following methodology to re-install the GMAT Prep software but it does not seem to be working. I followed the following steps:

GMAT Prep "Reset" - Reinstall
1.Go to C:\Program Files\GMATPrep\Exams
2.Within the Exams folder, you should see a Practice Test 1.log and a Practice Test 2.log
3.Delete or I'd say move to other location both logs*
4.Relaunch the GMAT Prep software, and it should show you that both practice exams are now Not Attempted, and you can take them again.

In the above step no. 2, my system had files Practice Test 1.DAT and a Practice Test 2.DAT and not .log, I use Windows VISTA.

After this step I relaunched the software again but got the following error:

An application error has occurred. The application will now exit.
Error Description: Required resource not found: exams\Practice Test1.DAT (java.lang.Ilegalstateexception)

I then re-installed the software but got the same tests again and repeated the above process to get the the same error again.

Kindly help, I have my exam in a week.

Thanks,
Kushagra

Hi Kushagra,

I don't believe that you need to re-install the GMAT Prep software in order to retake the practice tests.

Cheers,
Brent

Hi I have also faced a similar bug trying to save those practice logs in order to have all history of my gmat preps. Unfortunately, this process gets u into trouble such as the one u are facing.

FIX :
1> uninstall again.
2>delete all files which u have backed up at the other location {this might not be necessary}
3>most inportantly- > enable "view hidden files and folders" and then delete all HIDDEN gmat prep items from C:/ post uninstall. Gmat prep is a wicked software- it does not get out of the C drive completely even after uninstall.
4>once ur C drive is completely free of all GMAT prep files and traces - re-install and only then will the big be fixed.

Aditional tip : If u have a virus on ur pc that does not allow u to view hidden files then u are in some serious trouble. In that case use nero or some other CD burning device to view all hidden file on c drive and then do as instructed above.
Cheers !!

Dear Bblast

Thanks so much for the detailed process.

Just wanted to again emphasize that I have already given the Gmat Prep 1 and Gmat prep 2 and the idea here is to get two new sets of the tests, when we uninstall and re-install the Gmat Prep software, we do not get new tests but the same old attempted ones.

Kindly advice...I also do not need the tests I have already given... Like I have already analyzed them and do not wish to look back later

I just want two new GMAT prep tests.... Plzzz help

Many Thanks,
Kushagra

looks like I assumed too much about ur knowledge on Gmat prep.

Gmat preps are 2 dynamic tests which pick questions from a back end database. The interface is a java program which may give u a significantly different set of questions when u "RETAKE" the exams upto three times{there are arguably around 1000 questions in GMat prep database}. So there are no new GMAT preps up for grabs once u have used them once. So just delete everything as I said. Reinstall the software and resrart the tests. You might see a completely different set of question when u retake the test.

Note that U will continue to see ur old tests in the software until u reinstall{delete all files from C:/ drive}. Re-installing is not mandatory. As Brent said, just replay the tests. "When the dialogue box asks do u wanna resume ur test ". just select "NO".
Cheers !!

Hi Bblast,

Please help me in this regard, I had deleted the entire gmat folder, allowed the hidden files to show (though there were none of gmat prep), uninstalled and reinstalled. The current status says omplete, if i run the same test, I get the same first, seond and third question.... how to make to make the tests unattempted..

Please help............this is critical for me.

Thanks and regards

Hi, Please re-read all the posts I have made above :

1>You are seeing the status as complete because u may have a virus in ur pc which is not allowing the hidden files to be deleted or viewed from C:/.

2>Forget all this and stop wasting any further time. Even if u see first 3 questions repeated, the following questions will be different, so go ahead and complete the test, instead of wasting ur time posting on this thread and trying to figure out how to reset the tests. Just go ahead and retake. Even if u reset, u will see the same number of repeat questions.
Cheers !!
