GMAT PREP on Mac

by aleph777 » Wed Feb 16, 2011 6:37 am
I've taken a few MGMAT CATs so far, but I hear mixed reviews about how difficult or easy certain aspects are. With three weeks left til showtime, I decided I wanted to try a GMAT PREP CAT to get a true evaluation of where I stand. But as a mac user, I seemed screwed, for lack of a better word.

However, I installed an opensource windows simulator on an Intel based Mac last night, downloaded GMAT Prep, and ran through some of the practice sessions (not one of the actual CATs) flawlessly!

Wanted to share the info for other Mac users. The only real requirements, it seems, is either an understanding of basic programing language (which I'm sure about 50% of you already have) or a willingness to spend 10 minutes to learn the essentials you need to get GMAT Prep up and running.

Here's the simulator: https://www.winehq.org/

And, even more importantly, here's a clear and concise tutorial on how to install wine and your programs in order to get them up and running: https://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/

It took me about an hour or so to download and install everything.

I am going to give this a go tonight. I was going to borrow a Windows based laptop for practice days, but am now going to be out of the country for work.

Objections to PM'ing you if I run into trouble?

If this works, I owe you a beer.

Thanks for posting this! I'm still trying it out, but I was about to give up and start looking for PCs to borrow when I saw your post. Hope it works - thanks again for sharing! :)

Good website.....
Don't look for the incorrect things that you have done rather look for remedies....
