by successin08 » Wed Sep 03, 2008 9:53 am
Ok Ngufo, I realllly need your help. I feel overwhelmed! I am giving my gmat on 12/20 and am totally already stressing out on it. I have the following books, Kaplan Math guide, Kaplan Verbal, Princeton Review, OG 11, and a Kaplan comprehensive guide. How do i begin. I started going through the Kaplan Math Guide and am About half way through it I do the problems and then if i don't get them right, I either look at the answer to see what i got wrong, or keep working at them.

My Goal is to do to DePaul Univeristy in Chicago, and i feel like that is not going to happen. I would like a score of 700+ HELP!

by visa1416 » Fri Sep 05, 2008 6:58 am
Dear All,

From whatever I have read so far on this website, most of you have used either Princeton , MGMAT or Kaplan test prep material.Has anybody tried using Veritas Prep Material? Iam using the same. How does that compare with others? What do i need to supplement it with? Iam also working with OG 11th edition.

When I was reading your story.........i felt like I am reading mine, I am in the same stage, finds very difficult every time since no math back ground and very poor in verbal, however i took bold step finally by taking off from work and preparing for the exam - all these with my husband support.

My target is Harvard - not sure whether i will get through or not! :?

Your story is really inspiring ...........great plan and unbelievabale hard work leaded u near to success, Best of luck for HARVARD application process.

Hi Sue,
It is great to knwo that you have taken such a bold step forward. Please make sure that you know what your weaknesses are, and you create a study plan that matches that. Just make sure that you correct all your mistakes (be it in quant or verbal), adn correct means, you need to understand the concept more than the answer, so that if the same problem came again you can fix it.

I havent applied to any schools yet (had some tremendous work/family pressures), but what I do know is that I gave my everything to the exam when I wrote it. Whether I end up going to a management school or not, I will always know in my heart that I gave it my best - at the end that makes all the difference - you never gave up....

Wish you all teh best,
-ngufo

Hey Hi

Hi Ngufo/Ekta,

It was pleasure having your advice and support. If you dig thru this thread you will find my id asking for advice. I gave exam in April and I got admitted to MBA program I was looking for. I did well in my exam, I did not cross 700 but it was not needed for me, but I was close

I have already started my semester and I finished midterm exams for this semester. And I am enjoying my MBA program.

I wanted to THANK YOU for you kind words, support and help. You are the most effective person in giving advice and I appreciate your patience of writing long posts. I love your posts and advice to every person you have encouraged. Keep up the good work.

And I am pretty sure you will make it to HBS, I think you should stand for election, You definitely have better chances than Palin

Thanks again and respect and Love
Vgamt2.

Hi vgmat2,
I didnt need to dig thru the threads, I remembered you :). What was even better was hearing you got into MBA school, and that too of your choice - it doesnt get better than that....

Congratulations to you, you totally deserve it. Thanks again for your kind words, even though I just wrote the emails, it was you who had the willpower and the dedication to get the stuff done - so hats of to you :)

Take care,
-ngufo

This is such an amazing story! I've read every single message in this thread over the past week.

I was a bit concerned when I read the following from one of ngufo's recent posts, "Whether I end up going to a management school or not, I will always know in my heart that I gave it my best."

What do you mean by "whether or not you will go", ngufo? Of course you will go! At least you will go if it's still what you want to do! If you still want to go to Harvard, then you will be there and nothing will be able to keep you away even if you have to apply 50 times over the next 50 years to get there. (Though I personally don't think it would take that long. :) ) If you could drag yourself into the GMAT test while sick and having no sleep, and also after having spent months upon months in study, then I am completely confident that you will also reach your next goal! Please do keep us updated on your progress.

Hi bekkiyln,
I had tears in my eyes reading your post - thank you for the kind words. Its hard to make up your mind to go for something big - its specially hard for me, cause once I do decide I go for it like my mind is on fire. I havent written any applications yet - (its a huge cost to go to school, plus if I do go I plan to go full time, it will affect my family, both financially and on a personal front). Its been a very very hard issue to tussle with.....

What I do know however is I started with a dream, that never seems to go away, never seems to die. I still wake up at night dreaming I am sitting in a class at Harvard or Stanford, blissfully lapping up some great information from a awesome set of professors and students. I still feel the same sweet pain, when I even hear the words MBA. I have missed applying for the first round - but after reading your post, I do believe that I will apply.....

When I wrote this blog, it felt like i had documented a very personal part of me, it felt like shedding some big load, and letting people know that "hey not all the people who get good scores are geniuses, there are people who struggle a lot too - but still make it".

I never knew this blog would actually help me some day, give me the push I need to make my dream come true..... your post just did that!

Thank you belkkilyn - I owe you one. I really pray to god that he gives you all the power, determination, and mental strength to go the route you have decided, get a great GMAT score, and better yet go to the school of your choice!

As for me - going to get the ball rolling again ......

Take care,
-ngufo

Yay! I am glad you have decided to move forward. Juggling your dreams amidst daily life and responsibilities can really be *tough*, but one thing I have realized is that there is never an ideal time for just about anything. We want something, *but* we'll do it after this or that, or we still want it, *but* we just need to get this other thing out of way first. We're still wanting it, *but* *but* but*.....

There is always going to be a *but* trying to hold you back. I've gone through many of them myself! (And still struggle with them.)

The trick is to just go ahead do it! You might be scared to death to do it, or that you're not ready, or another million reasons that will zoom around in your head, but if you don't at least *try*, you won't even have the chance. I think you have even written some things like this in some of your previous posts to other people, so you know the drill. :)

And it certainly doesn't hurt to apply at the very least. Once you get accepted, you can deal with how to actually get there at that point.

Hold to your faith! If this is part of your true calling, then God will help you get there even if there are times when it seems hopeless. Just don't give up!
