3^(x+y)^2 / 3^(x^2+y^2) = 3^(2xy) = 3^2 = 9.

If anyone is not comfortable with algebra, they can select x = y = 1, as that doesn't violate anything. Now, the expression can re-written as: [3^(1 + 1)²]/[3^(1² + 1²)] = (3^4)/(3²) = 3² = 9

The correct answer is D.
