Rather than approving the rebuilding of prairie homes destroyed by the tornado, authorities are considering alternative options to utilize the land on which the homes once dwelt, acknowledging that the prairie will always be exposed to an "act of God".

are considering alternative options to utilize the land on which the homes once

are considering using alternatives as for the land on which the homes once

are considering alternatives to using the land on which the homes once

are considering alternative options of utilization of the land on which the homes once

are considering alternative utilizations for the land on which the homes once


my query: isn't ALTERNATIVE and OPTIONS redundant.

yes ur query makes sense
But somehow I feel "considering alternatives" doesn't go well with "to using"
I would prefer going with A

Note that "alternatives to using" is not grammatically incorrect, but changes the meaning of the sentence. There is in fact only one "alternative to using the land", and that is "not using the land", but in a different sentence, you could have, for example) "They considered many alternatives to using high fructose corn syrup."

Sorry for not being clear -- I was saying why I wouldn't have chosen C. Options are by definition alternatives, saying both would be unneeded, and the sentence is clearly trying to indicate that they have multiple other uses for the land under consideration, so the plural is warranted. The alternative to using the land is just not using it; the alternatives to rebuilding the homes are many.
