thanks Eric...I've read all that you posted. I have most of the books mentioned but I'm still missing the mark by like 50 points. Any suggestions, my test date is in 2 weeks.

GMAT Score:720

by Eupfhoria » Tue May 17, 2011 11:59 pm
I picked up my first GMAT books back in December. I didn't really have a plan for studying, I just knew I needed to take the test sometime before this fall. I'm guessing, based on my initial tests, that I would have scored somewhere in the mid 600s had I walked straight in the door. I figured I needed at least a 700 to get into the schools I'm looking at.

I bought Kaplan's 2010 guide, GMAT 800, and Kaplan's Math Workbook on my first trip to the bookstore.

I live in Thailand, so I am unable to buy books (at least, non-NYT bestsellers) without an enormous amount of effort. Luckily, Amazon invented the Kindle. I was also able to download the OG and the Kaplan verbal workbook.

Finally, I purchased the BtG practice questions and signed up for the daily math and verbal questions. I ended up ignoring Kaplan's Math workbook, but answering some or all of the questions available through all of the other sources.

I figure I answered over 2000 total practice questions over 5 months, about 15 questions a day on average. I spent about $450 on practice materials and the test, not counting the hotel in Bangkok.

I took the test on Monday. 720!

This is AWESOME, Eupfhoria! What an awesome and inspiring prep story. I think this is the first time I heard of someone using their Kindle for a GMAT reference.

Congrats on the excellent score. I hope you stick around the community as you move onto the next stage, your applications!

Hi Eric,

Its been years you posted this story, but still , I see you have mentioned about two free downloadable tests. One being GMAT Prep and other Power prep. I have been working with only the GMAT Prep and do not see a power prep anywhere on the site....
Could you please guide regarding the availability of the Power Prep software..

TIA
Neeti

Hey Eric,

I am a new bee to this form. I am starting preps today. Got my hand on OG-12. Look to take the test in late August or September.

How and where to start from. Your inputs for getting a score of 720+ ?

Welcome to the community! A good place to start may be the 60-Day GMAT Study Guide. That would be a nice place to start!

Hi Eric

Thanks for a quick reply. Wasn't expecting this. I have started liking this forum already.

I would mark this as my fortunate beginning as I enrolled myself for 60day pack like half an hour ago.

Which books would you suggest for preps? I am generally familiar with Quant Topics. Verbal is where I need to catch up. As I mentioned in my last post I have got OG-12. Anything else apart from this that I may need next? I would like be precise and concise with my prep material as I have very little time.

Thanks in advance.
