My strategy would be

Knewton( u can replace with Kaplan/veritas) + grockit ( a must for practice) +e-gmat( for SC)/Manhattan SC guide+ Powerscore CR + OG (all three) + GMAC Quant/Verbal Review+GMAT Prep + Decent amount of official LSAT( for CR/RC)

Well, I can understand exactly what is going through your mind right now as I faced similar situation 2 months earlier. I was constanly scoring 680 or greater in MGMAT. But scored just 580 in actual exam(q49 v20).

But I don't think we have to blame system-GMAC/e-gmat/powerscore CR/Manhattan SC for that, The reason which I realised is pressure. I decided to forget my past attempt and again re-writing GMAT by March first week. and I am very much sure that I will not repeat same mistakes again.

My point to write this post is I have personally used resouces like e-gmat, Powerscore CR, Manhattan SC and I really found them very very useful. We should not forget that people who scored 780s also read those books.

There is no point in ranting. It will get you nowhere. Its in your best interest to accept the score with humility, and focus on your GRE. You could have easily missed a minor (or major) detail in the question. You will get nowhere with your claim.

Let it go. Move on.

@Maihuna : Dude, do you know what is e-gmat? I really feel offended with your comments here as an Indian and a student of e-gmat. If you have any practical experience of e-gmat please let me know.
The guy who claimed to score bad and used e-gmat said that he is using ears while solving SC. but in e-gmat they clearly mentioned that do not trust ears but follow the process to solve any kind of SC. now what if somebody not followed that process?

I will personnaly suggest you review harm done by your *egmat* exposure. From your discussion it seems you have relied a lot on them. I will particularly advice people here from refraining from *Indian origin* coaching approaches/institutes. For one, the GMAT coaching institutes in India are a failure, I have seen it in two big cities, Delhi and now in Bangalore. They do not get enough people on board and do lot of tricks to get *offsore* customers, fooling on several account. Their typical approach is CAT like which is an Pan Indian exam testing math english and logic in a crude manner, only intelligency being lot of uncertaintities, like in some year Quant will be super tough, another year verbal, and in yet logic portion(called DI here). These so called GMAT institutes are CAT based offsprings, mostly with association with an American brand in franchises, or individual one where a few 750+ guys are trying their chances, or a few independent houses like TIME or similar. The appriach is never like high scoring GMAT contents, but simple crude ways that does more harm than help.

The purpose of this forum is to help people make the most informed decisions about their GMAT preparations and this is best done by sharing our experiences. Especially please do not comment publicly about institutes that you do not know much about. In my case also I had gone to an Indian institute and do not think it helped me much. While I
agree with you that RC99 is not like GMAT rc, if you consider it like reading a news letter to expose yourself to different topics and increase reading speed it is a good document to go thru. Also e-gmat can not be linked to this category.

I dont know what you know about e-gmat that made you link it to this list. But you are wrong on both accounts about e-gmat

1) e-gmat is not an Indian Institute. It is an US based institute. I don't know why you have linked e-gmat here. Also, from what I know they focus just on the GMAT Sentence Correction.
2) I have personally immensely benefited from the SC strategies and questions. I know for a fact that their questions are of OG styles.

When I started using BTG I read an article regarding filtering and qualifying any material before you start working on them. I took it to the word and before using e-gmat I searched for all reviews I could get, read it all and then attended the free sessions offered by them. Only then did I buy the complete course and I can definitely vouch for the standard of questions in e-gmat.

I am sorry that you are having trouble with the GMAT, but I do not believe that Pearson is responsible. They are simply providing a service to GMAC. They have no stake whatsoever in the outcomes of the tests, their only charge is to execute efficiently and accurately. Similarly, GMAC's only concern is to provide a valid measure with which to compare applicants. It is illogical to think that either company would benefit in any way by discriminating against one group or another. In fact, the average GMAT for applicants with Indian citizenship is regularly higher than the mean.

While there are individuals for whom standardized exams do not accurately measure their potential, overall these tests are strong predictors of academic performance. They are the only common yardstick that admissions committee have with which to measure candidates. When I work with clients whose testing performance is well below their work in the classroom, we simply provide evidence of that discrepancy to the committee. In many cases I have gotten an applicant with otherwise strong credentials into a program for which he or she would not be qualified based on a GMAT score. Admissions officers are people and are not wedded to a single measure. Nevertheless, when looking at two applicants with comparable credentials, if one has shown, via an objective measure such as the GMAT, a greater potential for doing well academically, it is prudent to select the applicant with the higher score.

My knowledge frontiers came to evolve the GMATPill's methods - the credited study means to boost the Verbal competence. I really like their videos, especially for RC, CR and SC. You do check their study methods at https://www.gmatpill.com

Hi Nitya, gmatmacho and others,
I am getting several comments on my posts to egmat, rc-99, indian coaching institutes and other. Please note I have mentioned repeatedly *they are my personnel opinion*, do allow me to make adverse comments on something I do not like.

Please do not confuse with something I do not like vs something I do not know, I have rc-99, gone through snake-oil rooftop claiming indian coaching institutes(not enrolled,just enquired and busted the instructors in demo classes), just because they were snake-oil marketting gimmicks that turned me off immediately.

Though I have mentioned in gmatmacho response, that I do not know much about e-gmat, let me conced I am a registred user, and seen their free questions, if they are any indicator, for me they are not that magical/different. I do found they may be misguiding with their artificial level's. If they are helping you good, go ahead, praise them, they are not so good for me, so do let me make my comments. It's as simple as that.

Regarding Indian coaching institutes, I know many, in two major cities, and yes I may be wrong in generalization, but I do not have any regret if you any which is good, do let me know we will discuss online for everybody benifits.

When I started using BTG I read an article regarding filtering and qualifying any material before you start working on them. I took it to the word and before using e-gmat I searched for all reviews I could get, read it all and then attended the free sessions offered by them. Only then did I buy the complete course and I can definitely vouch for the standard of questions in e-gmat.

So you think e-gmat is good enough to have OG style questions in SC? AT what level? To certain extent making an SC question is easy, compared with, CR or RC which are more difficult, but the point is what are they testing even in SC. It is easy to make bunch of questions that tests some well know concepts in familiar form, e.g. use of relative pronoun in consistent form. Issue is use of the same construct in a way that makes majority to think that it is wrong, as it has never been or seen in Official sources, and still they are correct options.

The best such example is Chinese stolen 31 papers. When I started looking for some uncomprehensible OG explanation in OG 12, I started googling, I was surprised to see all of them, *all of them*, take my words, were SET questions, disclosed years back. Important thing with them is claims of some people we admire for all good reason, RON included, let me be explicit, I have great regard for this guy, but I can still find bunch of questions where in year 2007/8 Ron has bluntly claimed these cant be correct questions, and then later when incorporated in Gmatprep and OG 12, he himself was having *suitable* explanation, on the name of new learning.

The name of the game is really adapt as per official sources, if RON can go wrong I think we are nothing, no one, and so is these officilal questions, vs, official like questions. There just as duplicate as they can be, and in high scoring ranges they will dupe you more my brother than help, take my words for granted, and work on official sources for perfection rather than official like sources to be likely shortchanged when they matter.

My 2 cents.

Same thing happened with me, what Night reader has mentioned
I took GMAT prep1 without preparation and scored 680
Was consistently scoring above 710 in GMAT prep's (My first score for GMAT prep-2 was 750)

Took GMAT on 16 Feb and scored 620 (Q 47/ V 27), my verbal score was 22 percentile (still can't believe this). This happened after 7 months of preparation. I too have dropped the idea of taking gmat again..
