a cornfield is like a right triangle. it has hypotenuse equal to y and height equal to y/2. If y^2=2, what is the area of the field?

base^2 = hyp^2 - ht^2
y^2 - y^2/4 = (3/4)y^2
base = (3^1/2/2)y

area = (1/2)*(base*height)
= (1/2)*(y/2)*(3^2/2)*y
= (3^1/2))/8)*y^2
= (3^1/2)/8)*2
= (3^1/2)/4
