rather than worry about what GMAT you need, simply prepare well and get the best score you can. Very good execution on the application, along with a competitive GMAT score will be helpful. Obviously your undergrad GPA, with downward trend, will need to be overcome also. Your grad work will help to do this. cheers, alex

A few follow up questions.

1. Do you feel that I should retake the GMAT before I apply? Or is it worth applying by March 2016 for the Class of 2017?
2. If I get dinged by applying with my current GMAT score, will it make an admit harder to get when I reapply the following year?

I think you should retake the GMAT before applying, but as I am sure you are aware, the later you apply (Round 3s) the tougher it can be to gain admissions. Admit rates for reapplicants is often higher than first time applicants, which suggests reapplying is fine, as long as you have improved your candidacy. cheers, alex
