E

Both together,

8/9 + 1/8

64/72 + 9/72

73/72, which is larger than 1

It is given how smaller those x and y then 8/9 and 1/8.

Hence, they could be smaller than them and still be larger than 1.

Hence E

You could just try converting 8/9 and 1/8 to decimals if you are comfortable.

8/9 = 0.89
1/8 = 0.125

Lesser values can also give > 1, so E
