IMO A....using statement 2, x can be < -5 or > 5..insuf

statement 1...both parts of the eq have to be either positive or negative..
if x is a negative fraction, you will come out with a negative number for |x-1| and a positive number for x+1...so |x| has to be >1 for equation number 1 to work...
