Worthwhile to do visit MBA get togethers?

In recent weeks, I've been sent emails by MBA programs that I sent my GMAT score to, saying that they are holding meetings/panels for prospective students to get to know the school better. Is there any merit or benefit to attending these?

I know the most direct answer is "yes, because you get to know the school better", but I'm more interested in whether or not it reflects positively on me in my application. Greedy and shortsighted? Probably, but I don't have the money to attend all of these (hotel+flights, yikes!) so I was curious if there was any immediate benefit to it.

Hi

I dont have the following figures: What percentage of Students making a visit got admit calls? But even then with my personal experience, I have seen applicants who have made a mention of a visit in their application had a better admit rate.

I think only this statistics can make or break your decision.

Hmmmm, well, if you are not a strong candidate to start with a visit won't do that for you. If you are anyhow, not visiting won't harm. The advantages here are not quantitative, I feel, but qualitative, and the results, if any, are not measurable, as they are indirect.

That having been said, getting to know the school better is likely a very wise investment (and one with invaluable returns) even if it seems expensive at this point in time.

Am I going to regret my decision? I have seen quite a few cases where people get an MBA just to return to the exact same career path they had before. That thought makes me sh*t my pants. Also, it makes me a little (just a little) guilty to be leaving such a good salary at a time many families are scraping to make ends meet.

Hi,

If finance is an issue then going for this session may not be the best move. Thanks to internet now you can connect with desired people sitting at your home. Although, it's always good to visit the school if you have the chance and accessibility. Having said that please keep in mind that your admission will still depend on your profiles strength. A weak profile even after going through attending session may not benefit that much as a strong profile would.
