is there a difference between twice as many x as y and two time as many x as y? i am confused since i saw the explanation sayin

twice as many x as y is 2x=y

two times as many x as y is y=2x

i am confused and dont know which one is right and what to follow.

can anyone help me with this?

They are the same thing. If 2x equals y, then y equals 2x.

Just because y is on the right in the first scenario and on the left in the second scenario, doesn't make it different or affect the way the problem would be solved. You would solve it the same either way.

Try plugging a number for one of the variables in both situations.

Ex: x = 3

(1) 2x = y ---> 2(3) = y ---> 6 = y

(2) y = 2x ---> y = 2(3) ---> y = 6


Ex #2: y = 4

(1) 2x = y ---> 2x = 4 ---> x = 4/2 ---> x = 2

(2) y = 2x ---> 4 = 2x ---> 4/2 = x ---> 2 = x
