Minnesota is the only one of the contiguous forty-eight states that still has a sizable wolf population, and where this predator remains the archenemy of cattle and sheep.
(A) that still has a sizable wolf population, and where
(B) that still has a sizable wolf population, where
(C) that still has a sizable population of wolves, and where
(D) where the population of wolves is still sizable;
(E) where there is still a sizable population of wolves and where

OA E

Can anyone please tell me why we don't use 'that' initially and instead of it use 'where'

IMO because we need to maintain where...where parallelism....

there is no that...that parallelism in either of the choices

IMO, the pronoun 'that' will modify "states...". In this case, has a singular will not be the right choice.

If you say "where there...", then has can be eliminated. Also, where is the right choice when you are referring to places.

The two relative clauses that follow, starting with "where" will modify "states" and not Minnesota.

states where the population of wolves is high and where this predator is the number one arch enemy.

there is no that...that parallelism in either of the choices
The most important point to note here is:

for Place we use => where
For Time we use => when

Now,left with only D and E

Now comes the issue of parallelism.

Its not like we can't use "that".

But int he answer options there is no choice with "have"
so we are left with D and E
and E is the answer
The powers of two are bloody impolite!!

Well I agree with where ...where construction but what about the a sizable population of wolves and this predator .... wolves are plural wheras this predator is singular no paralelism . Could someone please kindly explain?

IMO we need to maintain only where where parallelism(i.e. the most important part...rest of the sentence may or may not follow the parallelism)....there are couple of examples of this sort in OG(including this one)
