If origin O (0, 0) is shifted to (5, 2) without rotating the axes, what will be the coordinates of the point in the new axes, which was originally represented by (1, 2) in the old axes?
(A) (-4, 2)
(B) (-4, 0)
(C) (6, 2)
(D) (6, 0)
(E) (3, 1)

IMO B

The old axes point (1,2) and New axes origin (5,2)

So the old axes point (1,2) lies on new X-axis as y = 2. Hence new y = 0. Discard A, C, and E.

The old axes point (1,2) and New axes origin (5,2) so Old point definitely lies to left of New Origin. Discard D

Hi shovan

Can you please explain this in a little more detail. I did get a vague idea but am not sure if I would be able to solve similar problems by myself..Is there any book/website where I can know more co-ordinate geometry..MGMAT book is not sufficient..
