More than 17 percent of world wine is produced in Italy, while in Spain it is a little over 14 percent.
(A) while in Spain it is a little over 14 percent
(B) compared to Spain, where it is a little over 14 percent
(C) whereas in Spain wine production accounts for a little over 14% of world figures
(D) and in Spain wine production is a little over 14 percent
(E) compared with the wine production in Spain, where it is a little over 14 percent.
Experts please confirm my reasoning
IMO C,
"it" does not have any antecedent - A,B,E out
"and" is not appropriate to show contrast + we don't know 14% of <WHAT>. we cannot assume "14 of world wine" because of LACK of parallelism - D out
Wine production

I think that this should say "More than 17% of the worlds' wine production"
This is very like the question on nuclear power in France from the Official Guide. Here are some links to discussions of that question.

As you can see parallelism and clarity are really the issues here. It is clear in C that we are talking about wine produced in Spain that is 14% of all the wine in the world.
Hope that official question helps!

I would say it is based on an official question and designed to test the same thing as the official question that I have referenced above.
It can be useful to see the same concept tested in different contexts so that you are ready to recognize the underlying issues.
