IMO E.

Parallelism: Journalists view....but think (hence A,B,C out)

(D) think that they will be or could --->INCORRECT: Correct forms would be: "will be OR can be"\ "would be OR could be"
(E) think the power stations would or could --->CORRECT: that "Assumption or any future prediction made in past" requires would\could\should

A majority of the international journalists surveyed view nuclear power stations as unsafe at present but that they will, or could, be made sufficiently safe in the future.
(A) that they will, or could,
-> Separated by comma not required because only two options

(B) that they would, or could,
-> same as above

(C) they will be or could
"they" incorrectly refers to journalists.

(D) think that they will be or could
they -> refers to nuclear power stations -> correct

(E) think the power stations would or could

Not needed to repeat.

Shouldn't the usage be of :
will and can
would and could

Is it correct to use will with could or for that matter, can with would?

IMO D as well.

Is there any parallelism here: "will be or could be"? I determined the answer based on this.

IMO D , though need to understand why E can't be true.

The only parallel option is in C. Will be or could be.

Think the underline stops before the word "be".

So option c is best.

I think it should be "E" noun is clearly mentioned and since the conversation is in the past .. would or could makes more sense. Interested to know whats the correct answer?

I believe that this problem is from 1000SC, which is not the good source and has no explanation.

If you have problem from good source then you can request explanation from expert but Some of the GMAT teacher ask for source.

BTW, Answer for above problem is D but no explanation. right?

I believe that based on above explanation you can yourself make some judgment.

You didn't post OA till now.

Here is your problem with key
