A very small ball lies at the point (3, 2) in the X - Y plane. The ball is then shifted straight down 5 units. If Y-axis were a mirror, then at what point will the image of this ball, lie?
(A) (3, -2)
(B) (-3, -3)
(C) (-3, -2)
(D)(-2, -2)
(E) (-2, -3)

is it (-3,-3)? just a guess don't have proper reason, after moving 5 down actual point will be (3,-3) so ideally mirror image will be on other side of quadrant.

I have a problem with the phrase "the ball is now shifted by 5 units towards the negative Y-axis". Is this a real GMAT question?

"Towards the negative Y-axis" is too ambiguous to be part of a proper question. At what angle are we approaching the axis? At which point on the y-axis are we aiming.

The question should instead read:

"the ball is now shifted downwards 5 units, parallel to the y-axis"

or, even simpler:

"the ball is now shifted straight down 5 units".

If that's the proper interpretation, then linkinpark has the correct answer.
