The most effective way that in my opinion would be to spot your weakness and prepare towards that. Since the last time you concentrated only on Quant and RC, you might want to concentrate on the CR and SC sections in addition to your Quant and RC preps.

Take a diagnostic test and spot your weakness. You could get the Official Guide for GMAT review (12th edition) and practice questions from that. GMATPrep cats are the best Prep tests that are available. you could reinstall and take them again, you might see some repeats but its a chance to practice some new questions. Manhattan GMAT prep tests are also very good.

also be careful. You might not be able to do so in only 40days. But then again I dont know your abilities nor how much time you could spend daily/weekly on studying and practicing.

What you dont want to do is another gmat and get another LOW SCORE because the uni you apply to WILL GET ALL YOUR SCORES. Especially if you already got such a low score I would rather DEFER/CHANGE THE DATE of the exam till later on to give me the most time possible to get the best score possible.
