[GMAT math practice question]

While person A walked 200m, person B walked 100m. They walked facing each other for a distance of 1500m and met in 10 minutes. Find the sum of the distances persons A and B walked in 1 minute.

A. 100m
B. 120m
C. 150m
D. 160m
E. 170m

a - Speed of A
b - Speed of B

Since they walked towards each other, their relative speed is a + b.
Speed = Distance /Time
Given a +b = 1500 / 10 m/ minute

a+ b =150.............................(1)

Also, Given a/b = 200 /100
a = 2b

Put this in Equation (1) to solve for a and b

a= 100 m/ min

b = 50 m/min

So , distance traveled in one minute = 50 +100 =150 m

Assume Va and Vb are the speeds of persons A and B, respectively.

Then we have Va = 2Vb and 10Va + 10Vb = 10(2Vb) + 10Vb = 20Vb + 10Vb = 30Vb = 1500, and Vb = 50m/min. Then Va = 2Vb = 2(50) = 100m/min.

Then the distances walked by persons A and B in 1 minute are 100m and 50m, respectively. So, the total distance = 100 + 50 = 150.

Therefore, C is the answer.
