While Noble Sissle may be best known for his collaboration with Eubie Blake, as both a vaudeville performer and as a lyricist for songs and Broadway musicals, also enjoying an independent career as a singer with such groups as Hahn’s Jubilee Singers.

A) and as a lyricist for songs and roadway musicals, also enjoying

B) and writing lyrics for songs and Broadway musicals, also enjoying

C) and a lyricist for songs and Broadway musicals, he also enjoyed

D) as well as writing lyrics for songs and Broadway musicals, he also enjoyed

E) as well as a lyricist for songs and Broadway musicals, he had also enjoyed

C

thanks a lot for these detailed answers.

I have a question about the tense 'had enjoyed' in the choice E. Is it legit? I figured that the simple past tense would be enough.

Could you please help me clear my doubt?

Thank you in advance for your answer

C
In options A and B, we are lacking a verb. Instead we have enjoying which cannot be a verb alone.
Moreover there are parallelism issues too in these choices as explanied below.

Nest we check of parallelism.
The non underlined part says as both a X ...
We need to complete the sentence by and a Y, making the sentence:
as both a X and a Y ...

Only Option C satisfies this parallelism.
Correct Option: C
