Which of the following most logically completes the passage below?

Heavy rains during Centralia’s corn planting season prevented some farmers there from planting corn. It is now the planting season for soybeans, another of Centralia’s principal crops, and those fields originally intended for corn are dry enough for planting. Nonetheless, even though soybean prices are unusually high at present, the farmers will leave most of these fields empty rather than plant them with soybeans, since ‗‗‗‗‗‗.

(A) the extensive rains have led to an increase in the price of corn

(B) some Centralian farmers anticipate serious financial losses due to the extremely wet spring planting season

(C) chemicals that were used to prepare the fields for corn planting would stunt the growth of soybeans

(D) the majority of Centralia’s corn farmers were able to plant corn as they had intended, despite the wet planting season

in this argument, the question asked why is it that some farmers cannot plant soya beans in place of corns which they couldn't plant earlier because of the excessive rainfall.

Option A - incorrect
It refers to the argument that says some farmers were unable to plant corn because of the excessive rain. It doesn't explain why they would leave their fields empty.

Option B - incorrect
This mentions that there would be financial losses but it doesn't explain why farmers would plant soybeans so as to recover from this financial loss.

Option C - correct
This option provides a logical reason why farmers wouldn't want to plant soybeans because the chemicals used on the soil can cause stunted growth on soybeans, and it may cause more losses.

Option D - incorrect
This option is out of scope as it discusses factually that the majority of farmers were able to plant corn, but the argument says that some farmers were not able to plant corn. So, our concern is not those who were able to plant rather those "some" farmers who were not able to plant and we have to find the reason why these "some" farmers will leave the field empty.

Option E - incorrect
This option is completely out of scope. It doesn't give a reason why farmers won't be able to plant soybeans.
