Which number is smaller: -2 or 1?

by hanakimis » Wed Dec 24, 2008 11:25 pm
So, according the GMAT, which number is smaller? A negative 2, or a postive one?

I guess my question boils down to: does smaller imply getting closer to zero, or negative infinite?

Thanks.

this in not something that is debated by mathematicians.....

-2 is smaller than 1.....and this holds true for GMAT also....

however keep in mind that |-2| is larger than |1|.

know your number line. (search on google)

between two numbers, the number on the left is smaller than the number on the right.
