This was third edition. The verbal strategies are very poor in this edition. SC is somewhat what we have in the latest edition, but CR and RC were combined to a single book. While in the 4th edition they released separate books for CR and RC. The latest has some more content added to CR book alone.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.
