First I want to say I have heard great things about you Ms. Blackman. I have currently owned my own marketing company for 5 year and would like to change careers to finance or consulting. I know that a full time program would be best but I don't want to wait a year and I was accepted to NYU PT and Columbia EMBA. If I'm looking to get a job in finance or consulting and have the time to take on a non-paid or paid internship anytime which one would be the best fit?

Thanks for any insight you have and I understand this is not the best route but currently my only one.

Dear monad2000,

Either program has the curriculum and industry connections to help you make your transition. I would suggest visiting these programs, if you can, or talking with a current student or alumnus of each program on what career resources are available to facilitate your job search. You want to get a sense of what the career office can assist you with and how open alumni in the respective alumni networks are to meeting with PT/EMBA students. I also encourage you to try to ask the NYU PT and Columbia EMBA admissions offices for any information or detail (perhaps a meeting or phone call with someone in career services) on how successful graduates from those programs have been in making a career change to finance or consulting. Ultimately, you will be the greatest determinant of your ability to make the change; however, you might find that one program has more resources available or just seems a better fit to you once you start doing your research.

Good luck,
Lisa
