Which concentrations for me (IT/male)?

by TrueLie » Wed Sep 21, 2011 7:00 am
Dear Sir or Madam,

I am working in the software industry. I hold an advanced degree in Computer Science.
I want to be an entrepreneur after my MBA. However, my very short-term goal is to work is US/Canada for some years to earn some money to start my business. Hence, I think that if I choose only the Entrepreneurship concentration, it's hard to get a job in US/CAN after my graduation.

I would like to ask which job is good for an IT guy + MBA ("Good" means I can easily get a job after graduation)? Furthermore, which specialization/concentration should I choose to fit that job (and also to fit my long-term career goal as an entrepreneur)? Somebody tells me that a Business Analyst job is OK for IT guys with MBA if I look for job in US/Canada. Is this true?

Thank you very much.

Dear TrueLie,

There is no answer to your question as there are no guarantees when it comes to a job search. No one can "easily get a job after graduation." Securing employment takes effort on your part to identify an opportunity, prepare for an interview, and show that you are the right candidate for the job. Thus you need to determine the concentration that makes the most sense for you based on your career goals. Additionally, your business school concentration is not a determining factor in the job you obtain post-MBA--it will neither exclude nor include you from competing for an opportunity.

Good luck,
Lisa
