Which Bschools to apply

by Ramneet Singh » Fri Dec 02, 2011 12:09 pm
I am unable to decide which schools do i have better chances of getting into .
I am Indian Male.I have 4 years of IT experience .
I scored a 740 on Gmat and 2.99 GPA in my Engineering
I wanted to get into Strategy Management and in the long term goal is to start my own venture
What Bschools in the US should i apply to ?
I think The top 3 Harvard , Stanford and wharton are beyond my reach .
The other Bschools that are still on my radar are
1)Stern
2)Duke
3)Chicago
4)Columbia
5)Guizueta
6)Tuck
7)UNC Kenan Flagler
8)LBS
9)MIT
10)Ross
Would you be so kind as to guide which college could be good for IT engineers who want to get into strategy management as a short term goal and entrepreneurship in the long run in the order of my chances of getting in .
I feel that I should apply to
1)Tuck
2)Ross
3)MIT
but i am not very sure about the others
I could give you more information if what i have provided is not enough

Hello sir!
Well a 740 is definitely a good start! but it isn't really enough info. We need a lot more info about your work experience, how many people you lead, extra curriculars, hobbies, and other amazing stories you have. After all, candidates don't get in based on GMAT and GPA alone (although they are important!) But there's a lot of other factors that come into play.

Thank You Jon for the response
I was a senior software engineer when i quit.I was an acting Lead for 3 people .I had 4 years of experience when i quit.At IT companies, software engineers don't get promoted before they have spent 6 years .I tried to start my own import export unit which didn't work out so i have been working as an operations manager in a chemical factory to gain some additional responsibilities.
I cant quantify my achievements since software engineers are not allowed access to metrics. However i have taken a number of initiatives and situations in which i have have had a chance to show my project management skills

I have International exposure too -around 8 months

Extra Curricular :Helped to eliminate social initiative that is an entrant from India to GSVC (Global social venture competition ) at Ross Michigan .
Mentored and offered career counsel ling to school children
NGO activities at Missionaries serving destitute children
Active cultural club Member and anchored sports fest at my last employer
Plays,Dances etc
office bearer at Club in college
Played basketball on school team . won tournament
Hobbies: Caring for Horses
Boxing
Running
I am aware that my application also depends on the essays .
But i am really having a hard time trying to shortlist 5 colleges where i have better chances of success considering my applicant pool .This is precisely the reason that i left out the top 3 harvard , stanford and wharton.
I was told stern is not good for Guys who want to shift from engineering to management roles .
But i have found a few Engineers who have been admitted to stern
