I am just starting my GMAT prep. As suggested before starting I gave the GMATprep practice test today to analyze my weaknesses. Here is a breakdown of my scores:

Overall: 620
Q: 39
V: 35

I think the score is decent as i haven't started preparing yet and have about 3 months in hand. The score also seems balanced between Q and V. I was hoping for some expert opinion as to what my strategy should be from here.

Also what score can I realistically aim for. I myself am hoping to get smthin in the 720+ range. Does that sound feasible from where I am today.

It is really difficult for someone to judge your best levels just looking at your current score.

I am no expert, but ur strategy should be to collect all your materials, identify your weak areas for revision, setup weekly targets. But to start with select a test date and register for it sooner rather than later. What say?

Yeah, i read the posts and realize the importance of fixing the test date. Will do it very soon, I was thinking of preparing for a month, look at where I stand and consequently get a date as right now I am a complete novice at GMAT.

I am hoping to give it my best shot, a 760+ score will be a dream come true. I am hoping to touch those levels and put in the required hard work.

My first practice test was a 620, I took manhattan gmat guided self-study course over 11 weeks and by week 12 took the gmat with score of 710. So you are in very good range. If your verbal is already 35 then with some minor improvements you should be able to get up to the 40's range at which point you'll just have to drive the quant. The good thing with quant is if you are good in that area, it's relatively easy to improve your performance once you put the pieces together. Goodluck either way!

Hey Wayward-Bound,

Yeah even I thought I had a pretty balanced report. Though before the test I wasn't expecting to score 35 in Verbal. I had heard that is the tougher part of the test.

After analyzing my answers I found:

Quant: Out of the 16 incorrect 12 were DS.
Verbal: Out of the 12 incorrect 7 were SC.

So I guess I really need to focus on these. I was hoping to find strategies for doing the same.

You're in good shape then. Get Manhattan GMAT sentence correction guide and you should be able to improve on that fairly easily. Their guide is solid and is the resource we all trust on SC. For the data sufficiency... browse the boards on how to improve. Outside of specific type were there topics? If you have the funds and are not taking a course, I would suggest getting a Manhattan GMAT set with syllabus and chipping away at it.
