Even together both the statements are insufficient as we do not have any information about machine C. Information about machine E is of no use. The correct answer: E

Hope this helps!

Rate = work / time taken
Statement 1 => machine A & D produced a total of 503 cups of espresso last week.
A + D = 503 ; B = ?? ; C = ?? information provided is not enough hence, statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT
Statement 2 => machine B & E produced a total of 405 cups of espresso last week.
B + E = 405 ; A = ?? ; C = ?? ; D = ?? information provided is not enough and we are only looking for average production rate of machine A, B, & D. Statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT
Combining the 2 statement together =>
A + D + B + E = 503 + 405
Value of C is not given hence we can find the average production rate of machine A, B, C and D. Both statements together are NOT SUFFICIENT
Answer = option E
